“The river has been a key component in turning Geeveston around into a natural oasis. The town, in its accidental design, had no room for recreation until we built Heritage Park as a ‘green space" - Laurie.
For over 20 years, a bunch of dedicated local volunteers have literally changed the landscape of Heritage Park. The river has been freed from choking weeds, paths formed, memorials maintained, eating areas established and countless hours of mowing and weeding to keep the place open, picturesque and freely used by residents and tourists alike.
The Park is living proof of how care, attention and love for where you live contributes to an incredible public space. The hard work put in by the men showcased in The CommuniTree Project cannot be underestimated, but they will be the first to jump in and say they weren’t alone and there are a lot of helpers to make the park as lovely as it is.
After spending some hours with the three of them, it is clear how much the Park, and the township means to them all, and the support they have given to our project has been practical and inspiring.
So, for this Project, we wish to say Thank You to Robert, Laurie and Ross. Your acts of kindness, dedication and community building are part of what makes Geeveston, and the Huon Valley, such a beautiful place.
