We believe that Tasmania is made special by its unique natural environment and the people who call our state home.
Our local parks, nature walks and unused public spaces are valuable community assets.
We aim to bring these spaces to life, increase their meaning and foster community connection and pride.
We believe that Tasmania is made special by its unique natural environment and the people who call our state home.
This is why we combine native revegetation and interactive storytelling to celebrate Tasmanian communities.
We engage in grassroots community engagement to identify public spaces that would benefit from rejuvenation and/or native revegetation. These planting sites then foster social inclusion and community connection,
as each tree shares the stories of local community members.
How We Do It
We work alongside local councils and communities to identity a planting site. Then, we connect with community members and groups; Schools, Aged Care Homes, Men's Sheds, Service clubs, Sports clubs, Fire Brigades, Local Artists- everyone!
We inspire these community members to cultivate personal stories; exploring who they are and their connection to their community. The project culminates in a community event, the Planting Day. An event in which we all come together to plant our trees and enjoy our new CommuniTree site. Each participating community member plants their own tree. This tree is then connected to their personal story via a plaque. Each plaque shares their story, as well as includes a link that invites people to experience a digital media version via our website.
