Arriving in the mid 1970’s from Northern England I was greeted by a snow capped Mt Wellington/kunanyi, and the distinctly Australian attitude of ‘a fair go for all’.
I’ve made the Huon Valley my home for 25 years and am grateful for all the opportunities that Tasmania has afforded me.
I grew up in Warrane, then in 1988 bought a bush property in the Huon Valley.
I’ve operated several local businesses, including Huon Bush Retreats, and have a good understanding of the issues facing regional businesses.
I have a strong community focus and value a Huon that promotes and develops local facilities whilst maintaining our close connection with nature.
By building upon what we have and what works well, and encouraging the development of a network of smaller scale enterprises, we will build a stronger and more resilient community. Resulting in a local economy that is better able to cope in our uncertain future.
Currently, as the manager of Geeveston Community Centre I work with the community to build options focusing on sustainable, locally owned enterprise. Through this work, I engage with all stakeholder levels from Government to individual residents.
I am energetic and passionate about the Huon Valley Community and the opportunities the future could hold.
